5 Heroic Resolutions to Aim for in 2018

 In Everyday Heroes, Hero Training

As we head into the first few days of 2018, we hope to continue making a positive difference and living a heroic life. We would like to encourage you to also continue being your amazing selves and to make living heroically part of your New Year’s resolution. Here are some ways that you can resolve to live a heroic life in 2018.

Practice self affirmation

Creating positive change starts with the self. If you believe that you can change and grow, then that makes helping others and the world feel less daunting. Find a phrase that makes you feel empowered, such as “I am enough”, or “I can do it”, and repeat your mantra to yourself every day. This is the first step to developing a positive growth mindset.

Become a positive deviant

Last year, we discussed the role of positive deviance in living a heroic life. For 2018, we want to spread the happiness and encourage each other to be positive deviants in our everyday lives. Do something nice for a loved one like shouting them a coffee, or pay them a meaningful compliment. One small positive act a day can work wonders for yourself and those around you.

Enroll in Hero Training

By participating in Hero Town’s unique Hero Training program, you too can learn how to be an Everyday Hero. The training is supported by social psychology and provides you with the resources you need to overcome the bystander effect and become a force for positive change. Hero Training will be returning to Hero Town Geelong in 2018 so keep up to date for our session times and be the first to book your place.

Be there for a friend

This New Year, we want to spread the love by being there for our friends and loved ones. When you’re having coffee with a friend, take the time to ask them how they’re doing. You don’t have to wait until September to ask someone, “are you OK?” It’s important to check in and support our friends all year around and make it a normal part of our lives. In 2018, make sure to surround yourself with people who are also supportive for you as well.

Become a Mental Health First Aider

In 2018 we are introducing several new courses to our Mental Health First Aid utility belt. By enrolling in the course that is best suited to your needs and interests, you can become accreditated as a Mental Health First Aider, which qualifies you to act in times of need during a mental health crisis. By participating in Mental Health First Aid training, you can empower yourself as a hero for a loved one who is experiencing a mental health concern.
