Standard Mental Health First Aid is a 12-hour face-to-face course, delivered in Perth by Hero Town over the course of two days. Participants receive a copy of the MHFA Manual and a Certificate of Completion.
Attendance is required across both days.
The two-day Standard Mental Health First Aid Course is for adults interested in learning how to support other adults.
Any interested adult can attend. This course is also not a therapy or support group, rather it is an education course to learn how to give first aid to others.
Evaluations have shown that participating in the Mental Health First Aid course is associated with improved knowledge of mental illness and treatments, first aid strategies, and confidence in supporting others, as well as improved mental health of those who attend, decreased stigmatising attitudes, and increased support provided to others.

So how does it differ to Standard Mental Health First Aid?
Youth MHFA includes more than Standard MHFA, including adolescent development (including how it can interfere with academic achievement, puberty, developing relationships and long-term mental health), non-suicidal self-injury and eating disorders (making it a 14 hour course, rather than a 12 hour course). Critically, it also focuses on understanding “normal teenage behaviour” versus mental health symptoms.
